The Internet fax facility allows one to send and receive fax messages without a fax machine or dedicated telephone line. All one needs to do is to subscribe to a service provider, who would offer this facility for a monthly fee. The faxes are sent and received through the email account via the Internet. When a fax is sent to the subscriber's number, the service accepts the fax, turning it into a file that is forwarded to the subscriber's existing email address. Apart from these, free Internet fax is also possible as there are many companies which offer this service free or for very nominal charges.

FaxZero is a free internet fax service that enables you to send faxes to any fax machine in the USA and Canada through the Internet. The format for the faxes is PDF or Microsoft Word documents. FaxZero inserts an advertisement on the front cover sheet but does not touch the rest of the pages. The service however is limited to two faxes a day and the number of pages for each fax must not exceed three.

freeFAX

This service provider offers free Internet fax in lieu of advertising on one-third of the cover page of your fax. Faxes can be sent without subscription and each of them get routed through the TPC.INT network and several countries are covered. Many areas in the USA and Canada are available, along with other countries in Europe, Asia, the Far East and many more. A membership offers features like speed dial and group faxing.

eFax

This Internet fax service company is touted as the largest, with a presence in 27 countries and around a million subscribers. You can send and receive faxes in this free Internet fax service as email attachments. The free service is for a month when you can receive 130 pages and send 30 and after this period is over, you have to opt for a monthly payment of $16.95 with additional charges of $0.10 and $0.15 for outbound and incoming faxes respectively. There is however a special category on eFax Limited Accounts, which is a free service for incoming faxes, which are forwarded to your email address.

Drop.io

This is a free Internet fax service which enables you to send faxes to any fax number. The faxes can be sent in PDF, Word or Excel formats. All that must be done is to sign up for a free drop.io account to use this Internet fax service. A document can then be uploaded to this account and sent as a fax to any destination in the USA. The files should not exceed 20 pages at any time. If you wish to receive faxes, you have to sign up for a paid service, which is as low as $10 per gigabyte per year.

NumbersUSA

This is a free Internet fax company which enables you to e-fax Congress. Registration must be completed and then you can fax any amount for free. The site provides information on Congressional bills and immigration, with lists of people and diverse issues. The fax sent would only have your name and no other information. This free Internet fax company subsists only on voluntary donations.
